Are there any bandwidth limits?

All Tempest Hosting servers include a 10 Gbps port (unless otherwise stated) with no set data transfer limits. You can take full advantage of this capacity whenever you need it.

To ensure consistent performance across our network, we apply a Fair Use Policy:

  • 95th Percentile Guideline: Average usage of around 1 Gbps or less at the 95th percentile is considered within Fair Use.
  • Room to Burst: Short-term spikes up to 10 Gbps (where hardware permits) are perfectly fine — whether for traffic surges, backups, or other demanding workloads.
  • When We Reach Out: If bandwidth use is consistently far above the Fair Use level, we may contact you to discuss options, which could include adjustments or moving to a plan built for higher sustained throughput.

What “95th Percentile” Really Means

Think of your bandwidth usage like a speedometer. We measure how fast you’re going every few minutes. At the end of the month, we throw away the top 5% of the fastest readings (the times you were really flooring it). What’s left — the speed you were running 95% of the time — is what counts.

👉 In other words: occasional spikes don’t matter. It’s only if you’re going really fast (using lots of bandwidth) almost all the time that it could go over Fair Use.

Why We Do This

Our Fair Use approach gives you the flexibility to handle big workloads and sudden peaks without worrying about strict limits, while keeping the network reliable and fast for everyone. If your project requires constant multi-gigabit speeds, our team can help customize a solution that fits your needs.
